Pozar Records is your friendly local record label, run by some friendly local Brooklyn natives with a chip on our shoulder. While we recognize that NYC has always been a home to people from anywhere and everywhere, and feel that it should always be, we feel that those of us who were born and/or raised here are getting lost among the towering condos, viral marketing schemes, and a music scene that seems to have not only an ignorance of what Brooklyn is, but an outright contempt for it. The real Brooklyn is a home to immigrants, to working people, and to middle-class families. It is a place where strangers talk to you, where you can find cheap food from any part of the world, find an apartment that feels like home without paying manhattan prices, a place where all of the larger than life, gritty character that makes New York great still survives. Until the past decade that is, when the glass condo plague, greedy developers, a mayor that doesn't give two shits about working families, and a flock of 'cooler that everybody' hipsters decided that this was the new Manhattan. We at Pozar Records have been fighting the whole time (in our own noisy, limited resource way) to keep Brooklyn the way we like it, and to stave off the soulless whitebread yuppification that threatens us so that we can have a fair chance at building the things we dreamed of as kids. We want a lifestyle that is affordable, a future that is ours for the choosing, jobs that dont suck, real support for our communities, and the right to have a culture that is our own in the place where we have lived our whole lives. We are a small operation, run out of our living rooms and basements, we are the same kids you saw playing all ages shows at L'Amour and dancing at the Temple at the beginning of this lousy decade. We're growing up now, and feeling the pinch of the recession and the dying economy, but we aren't going anywhere anytime soon. We are standing our ground, waiting for the right opportunity to blow the cafes and vintage shops back across the river, waiting for our chance to carve out a space where we feel at home again. We believe that the youth of NYC can find more creative solutions to the problems facing this city and its culture than helping someone gentrify Bushwick. Culture is more than proving to someone else how cool you are, more than the things you buy, more than entertainment. We need culture that is about holding communities together. We need music that has meaning. You can reach us at PozarRecords@gmail.com Come one, come all.
